The Klassik Open Air at Nuremberg’s Luitpoldhain attracts around 200,000 visitors and is one of Europe’s largest open-air classical music events. With audiences of up to 80,000 people per concert, delivering consistent sound quality across the entire site is a key part of the production.
To achieve even and precisely controlled coverage across the extensive audience area, we implemented a large-scale sound reinforcement system based on a multi-stage delay concept, fibre-optic signal distribution and comprehensive network control.
The system comprised two main hangs and 14 delay lines, using a total of 148 CODA Audio N-RAY and AiRAY line array modules to reproduce the full dynamic range and detail of the orchestral performances throughout the venue. Each delay position was equipped with its own amplification and power supply infrastructure, providing a high degree of control and operational reliability.
The decentralised system architecture allowed each coverage zone to be adjusted individually while keeping loudspeaker cable runs short. At the same time, the infrastructure provided the reliability required for the open-air production and supported the technical requirements of broadcast, television and live streaming.
The result was consistent, detailed sound coverage across an exceptionally large audience area, designed to preserve the clarity and dynamics of the orchestral performance from front to back.
